The CEO of What?? 500-Words Writing Challenge (Ages 12–16)
At GrowthEdX, we believe that every young person has a unique strength, a hidden talent, or a personal superpower that makes them stand out. The “CEO of What?? Challenge” is designed to help students aged 12–16 discover and celebrate those strengths by imagining themselves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the thing they are best at.
The concept is simple yet powerful: “I’m the CEO of [Thing I’m Best At].” Students will write a 500-word essay that highlights their chosen superpower, explains why it matters, and shows how it makes an impact. This could be a skill, a quality, a cause they care about, or even a role they naturally play in their community.
For example, you might be:
1. The CEO of Kindness
- because you always help others feel included.
2. The CEO of Problem-Solving
- because you love puzzles, coding, or fixing things.
3. The CEO of Creativity
- because you’re bursting with new ideas for art, stories, or inventions.
4. The CEO of Eco Action
- because you take a stand for the planet.
5. The CEO of Team Spirit
- because you make sure everyone feels part of the group.
6. The CEO of Health & Fitness
- because you inspire others to stay active and healthy.
- The list is endless. What matters most is that students think deeply about what makes them unique and how they can use their strengths to make a difference.
The Challenge
- Students will submit a 500-word written piece answering the following:
- What is your CEO title? (e.g., CEO of Creativity)
- Why this title? (Explain your unique strength and passion.)
- Proof: Share real-life examples or experiences that show why this fits you.
- Impact: How have you already made a difference with this strength?
- Vision: What would you do next to grow your “company” and inspire others?
Why Take Part?
- The challenge is about much more than writing or presenting. It’s a chance to:
- Build confidence and celebrate personal achievements.
- Improve communication skills by expressing ideas clearly.
- Develop emotional intelligence by reflecting on personal strengths.
- Gain leadership experience by thinking like a CEO.
- Practice networking and relationship-building by sharing ideas with peers.
Judging & Recognition
Entries will be judged on originality, clarity, evidence, impact, and creativity. Winners will be awarded the official “CEO of What??” title in their category, receive certificates, and be featured by GrowthEdX.
Why It Matters
Too often, young people don’t realize how powerful their everyday actions and qualities can be. This challenge encourages students to step into leadership thinking early, to see themselves as capable of driving change—even in small ways.
By writing about and presenting their personal superpower, they gain the confidence to carry it forward into school, community, and future careers.
The CEO of What?? Challenge is about more than words—it’s about helping the next generation discover their voice, define their strengths, and declare to the world:
“I am the CEO of ME.”
